2018 Wounded Warriors Guide Service Ice Fishing Tournament Set
When winter comes to the northern plains most people head indoors. Winters in the Dakota’s are nothing to take lightly. However, there is a group of people who do just the opposite. Hard water fisherman cannot wait for the subzero temperatures to ascend across the region. One specific gathering of fisherman takes place on Devils Lake in the northern portion of North Dakota. Fishermen come together to compete on the ice and raise money for a worthy cause. Proceeds from this tournament go towards funding adventures for injured veterans. Since its inception in 2009 the Wounded Warriors Guide Service has taken over 1000 injured veterans on all inclusive hunting and fishing adventures across the Midwest.
Wounded Warriors Guide Service is an organization that was founded by veterans, for veterans, to honor their sacrifices and service to our country. Our 501C3 Non-Profit Organization specializes in sponsoring and guiding outdoor adventures for those heroes who have given so much to defend our freedoms. What we wish to accomplish is to aid the healing process by showing great appreciation and through immersion into the great outdoors where memories are made and the stresses of daily life are absolved.
Warriors Guide Service has hosted this event out of Woodland Resort on Devils Lake since 2014. Each year the participation has continued to grow. The best outcome was that people had fun and all participants wanted to come back. One thing to clarify is that we do not host a derby but rather a two-person competitive tournament where use of all equipment is encouraged along with shelters and pre-fishing. Another thing to note is that the event is open to anyone who wants to come out and support a good cause.
The reason for the events success is for two reasons. First, the great organizations working together to make it happen. Woodland Resort, Proz Lakeside, The Devils Lake Chamber, Devils Lake VFW, Scheels and the Lake Region Anglers put many hours and resources into this event. Secondly the participants are second to none and have helped improve the tournament every year with their input.
In the past the tournament has been limited it to fifty, two-man teams and sold out early. In 2018 we are increasing that to 75 teams of two. Get your tickets before they’re gone at Woodland Resort, Scheels, or online at wwgsmn.org. We are excited to kick things off on Friday, March 3rd at Woodland Resort, Devils Lake ND. We hope you can join us. •
