January 23rd Fishing Report

Ice Conditions Ice conditions are averaging between 17 and 23 inches in most areas. There was quite a bit of snow on top of the ice with drifting but the warmer temps we had this past week knocked it down quite a bit. Something with tracks is recommended or an ATV if you’re more of a tactical fisherman but a full size rig will do too (don’t forget a shovel and tow rope to bring along). With all of this said, Tommy did find areas around the Dome House with about 4″ of ice so there still are spots in the area with thin ice. We currently have trails going from the resort landing to Peterson’s point, the Country Club, out to Military/Camp Grafton areas, Rocky Point, and going out to all of our houses for guests on the fish house-lodging packages and fish house rentals. Getting off of the trails with your wheel house hasn’t been an issue. Fishing Report Pike action continues in Walford’s Bay, and other areas with dense flooded timber. Guys are using tip-ups with sardines or herring on pike rigs. The Perch and Walleye’s are being found all over the board for depths. Starting shallow in the morning and moving deep has worked just as much as planting down in 20 feet of water all day to find out what the fish will bite on.
