Lake Region Anglers Association 2018 Events
by Johnnie Candle
The Lake Region Anglers Association is a group of fishermen and women dedicated to making fishing as good as it can be in the Devils Lake Region. LRAA meet once a month from September through April on the first Tuesday of the month at the Devils Lake Elks Club. All members are welcome.
This winter we have two special events that any angler in the region should be interested in. The first is our second annual rod building class. Master rod builder Chuck DeRemer will be on hand to guide us through the process of building a custom fishing rod. The class runs the evening of January 12th and all day the 13th. The cost of the class is $150 and includes everything you need to build your own rod. It is open to all members of the Lake Region Anglers Association. If you are not a member, just add the $20 membership fee.
The second event is our Annual Meeting. This year the meeting will be held on April 6th at the KC Hall in Devils Lake. The meeting includes a light meal, social hour, several speakers, and many door prize drawings. This is a family friendly event and all members are encouraged to attend.
For more information on these events, please visit www.lakeregionanglers.com or www.facebook.com/LakeRegionAnglers. You can also find membership forms and all the other activities of the Lake Region Anglers Association there. You can reach us via e-mail at email@example.com.
Another big goal of the “Anglers” as they are known in the region, is that of providing more and better lake access. In 2015 the City of Devils Lake, Devils Lake Tourism, the ND Game and Fish Department, and a few other local entities worked together and were awarded a nearly $500,000 grant from the Outdoor Heritage Fund to increase the shore fishing opportunities around Devils Lake.
We are proud to announce that all three phases of the shore fishing access project are now complete. Channel A and the East Ditch projects were usable all summer of 2017 and the Henegar Landing site was completed this fall.
The Lake Region Anglers are very proud of their involvement with these projects. •
One of the objectives of the Lake Region Anglers Association is to create a spirit of fellowship amongst our membership and one way we try to accomplish this is through the interaction of our members at our fishing Tournaments that are held throughout the summer months. We encourage all of our members to take part and enjoy this fellowship by participating in our LRAA sponsored Tournaments.
