The Devils Lake Fishing Report for the week of May 29th to June 5th 2017. Brought to you by Mitchell’s Guide Service. This last week’s surface temperatures in the Devils Lake Basin has risen to the low-to-mid 60s. Other than a couple of evening thunder boomers anglers fishing within this system saw stable weather, which resulted in great fishing. Walleye of all sizes are now being caught. Quite a number of our guided groups caught and released larger female walleye this last week. Limits of good eater walleye in the 15 to 21 in range was and continues to be the standard. Reports of larger northern pike being caught in the 30 to 41 inch range were also fairly common by our guides. All in all it was an excellent week of fishing. Favored presentations still put slip bobbers at the top. Some good catches were made on spinners and by trolling crankbaits. Pitching plastics continues to works well during active feeding periods. Devil’s Lake walleye are very fat and well-fed with the huge forage base this fishery offers. June, July, and August offer some of the best fishing of the year and that is just beginning to unfold here.
